π Pumpkin Week in First Grade! π±

What a fun and hands-on week we've had in first grade celebrating Pumpkin Week!
We kicked things off by learning our pumpkin-themed vocabulary words: vine, sprout, rind, stem, pulp, and seeds. But we didnβt just read about them, we brought them to life! Our class cut open two real pumpkins and explored each part with our hands. The students were so excited to feel the squishy pulp and pull out all the seeds!
We took what we learned and turned it into a fun and creative pumpkin craft, where we also practiced labeling each part of the pumpkin.
Next, we read the nonfiction book Pumpkin Jack by Will Hubbell. This story taught us all about the life cycle of a pumpkin, beginning with what happens to a jack-oβ-lantern after Halloween. Inspired by the book, we started our own science experiment! We named our class pumpkin "Jack" and will be observing it all year long as it begins to decompose. The students canβt wait to see if we get any pumpkin sprouts by spring!π±
We wrapped up the week by learning about pumpkin patches and even had a photo shoot in our very own pretend pumpkin patch right in the classroom!
Pumpkin Week was packed with learning, creativity, and discovery! What a memorable way to welcome October! ππ
