Mrs. Barrett’s Classroom Spotlight

Posted Date: 10/03/25 (5:55 AM)

Pumpkin Week has been a blast in first grade! Today, Mrs. Barrett’s class read Pumpkin Jack by Will Hubbell and then started their very own Pumpkin Jack experiment! 🎃

They named him “Little Pumpkin Jack.” Before placing him in his container, students got to help scoop and clean out the inside of the pumpkin.

Little Pumpkin Jack will stay in their classroom all year long in his special container. They will be watching him closely to see what happens as he begins to break down.

Just like in the story, they are hoping to see sprouts appear in the spring! 🌱

This experiment will give them a front row seat to learning about the pumpkin life cycle, decomposition, and plant growth.

The kids loved being part of the process and can’t wait to keep checking in on Little Pumpkin Jack! 🍂
