Transportation
The following are some general safety tips regarding students who are transported.

· Some buses start picking up students as early as 6: 15 am. It may be dark at that time, please be aware that young people are out and about during that time.

· Students in route to bus stops during the early morning hours should be dressed appropriately for both weather and visibility.

· Over 20 school buses of different sizes are now sharing the road with other drivers.

· Please be aware that all school buses are to stop at railroad crossings. Many rear-end collisions occur with school buses at railroad crossings.

· A school bus that has amber lights flashing is preparing to stop.

· A school bus that has red lights flashing and stop arm extended is either picking up or discharging students. Stop at a distance where you as the driver can see the activity around the bus.

· The danger zone is the area surrounding a bus that the driver cannot see where a student is located.

· Students are discouraged from crossing behind buses.

· The average (71 passenger) school bus weighs approximately 13 tons.
