Education at 23rd and Lincoln
It was an honor to join over 25,000 teachers at the Capitol on March 31st. We would like to again, thank our sponsors: Blue Ribbon Auto Group, Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce, Shannon Vann -State Farm Insurance and KXMX for sponsoring our trip. The March 31st date was a reminder to our legislature that they have an obligation to fund education first by April 1st. This year, like most in the past, the April 1st date has come and gone and no appropriations bill for education has been acted upon. In fact, it seems as if the topic of school funding has become quite divisive amongst policy
Building Update and Job Fair February 25th Last week was a week of progress on your middle school. With temperatures and precipitation levels getting back to the normal range, we were able to continue pouring footings and began masonry work on the northeast corner of the facility, which is the band room. Approximately 20,000 square feet of the over 91,000 square feet of concrete has been poured and the initial underground plumbing and electric is coming to conclusion. We still have a lot of construction left, and the various trades represented in the project are about to be on the job in full swing. We are proud that many Sallisaw residents have been employed through this project and hopes of employing more are on the horizon. Sallisaw Schools will be hosting a job fair to assist in facilitating the meeting between contractors and skilled tradesmen who are looking for additional opportunities for employment. The job fair will be held on February 25th in the Sallisaw Civic Center located at 111 N. Elm St. Sallisaw, OK 74955. The fair will run from 10:00am to noon. Various trades will be represented and range from specific trades such as drywall, plumbing, electrical, masonry to general laborer. Anyone interested in employment is welcome to attend and visit with the contractors on our job. We would like to send a special THANK YOU to Armstrong Bank for providing refreshments at the job fair.
Inclement Weather As colder temperatures creep into the area we are reminded of how quick the weather can become treacherous, making roads impassible. With the possibility of inclement weather on the horizon, we would like to ensure that our lines of communication are open and accurate so we can contact you in the event of school closings or emergencies. Sallisaw Schools will once again be utilizing our automated calling system, SchoolReach, to notify parents and guardians of school closings, emergencies and or upcoming events. Calls will be sent to the primary phone numbers that were provided to us during initial enrollment. If you have changed your phone number or would like to verify your contact information, it is important to notify your child’s school of the request so we can reach you as we strive to keep you informed.
